Nail fungus is unsightly and, left untreated, can result in loss of the nail. The good news is that we can kill it with lasers!
Nail fungus loves to grow in dark, moist places, like our shoes for examples! Swimmers, Hockey Players, Runners and other athletes are especially susceptible but anyone can get it, or should I say catch it?
It’s called Onychomycosis… which is the medical term for a nail infection caused by a fungus? There are many different species of fungus that can cause Onychomycosis and once an infection develops, it can be difficult, if not impossible, to eliminate. Nails infected with fungus tend to grow slowly and the infection becomes embedded within the nail bed. Traditional treatments involve oral medications that can take months to be effective and can be harmful to your liver.
There are other problems that can mimic fungus infections include psoriasis and some systemic conditions. Confirmation by a pathologist may be necessary.
The FDA has approved a laser known as an ND Yag for the treatment of Nail Fungus! This versatile laser is useful for many other indications as well, but in the treatment of nail fungus, it allows us to apply just enough bulk heating at the perfect depth to kill the fungus. Skinpossible's ND Yag is a Cynosure, and as with all of our technology, it is the 'Gold Standard' in medical-grade lasers. A series of quick and safe treatments have proven effective at killing nail fungus on the toes or the fingers!
