guide to laser treatments at any age skinpossible

Which laser treatment is right for you?

Beautiful skin is possible at any age, especially with the right tools and treatments. If you want a boost of youthful glow and silky smooth skin, you should consider getting a laser treatment. At Skinpossible, we offer an array of laser treatments for people of all ages. Keep reading to see which of our laser treatments suit your age and skin concerns. >>

Laser treatments can be performed anywhere on the body to zap away skin irregularities like acne scars, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, and wrinkles. Lasers have the power to promote collagen growth and shed layers of skin by pulsing short light beams directly onto the target area. Then with a short zap, it will stimulate the body’s natural healing process.

Note:  These recommendations are not for everyone. It’s important to book a consultation with our skincare experts to discuss your goals first.

Laser treatments we recommend for people in their 20s

This age group tends to follow social media and influencer trends. Twenty-year-olds are currently focused on getting clear, smooth, and glowing skin and are seeking to remove unwanted pigmentation, scars, hair, and redness. The best types of lasers for people in their 20s are:

  1. Laser Hair Removal:  For removal of unwanted hair on legs, underarms, bikini line, and upper lip. Great time to start because it’s long before hair turns grey. It also gives them plenty of time to enjoy smooth, hair-free skin.
  2. IPL/Photorejuvenation/Photofacial:  Great to address tone, texture, pigmentation, and vascularity. It’s a preventative and corrective non-invasive treatment that has no downtime. Can be used to treat unwanted freckles, rosacea, and redness.
  3. Acne Treatments:  People in their 20s seek acne laser treatments like bulk heating to kill bacteria and treat acne early before it turns into scars.

Laser treatments we recommend for people in their 30s

This age group is typically seeking to repair damage and prevent and slow down further signs of aging.

  1. Laser Hair Removal:  Like those in their 20s, those in their 30s wish to remove unwanted body hair.
  2. Micro Laser Peels: Great entry treatment to facial resurfacing without lengthy downtime and discomfort. One Micro Laser Peel is equivalent to about three or four chemical peels. It's a bit more in-depth and uses the heat to tighten the skin’s elastin and produce new collagen formation.
  3. IPL/Photorejuvenation/Photofacial:  Enhances and brightens complexion by treating sun damage, rosacea, acne, vascular lesions, signs of aging, texture and tone, hyperpigmentation, and melasma. Evens out skin tone with minimal downtime. Improves and prevents early signs of aging, and sun damage, and helps stimulate collagen. It can be used on the face, neck, chest, arms, and hands.
  4. Non-ablative lasers:  Evens out texture and stimulates collagen, reduces sun damage, and tightens skin. They’re good for general resurfacing, acne scarring, texture, prevention, and tone improvement.
  5. CO2 Fractional (ablative):  Good for skin resurfacing. Reduces lines and wrinkles. Improves scars, reduces sun damage, hyperpigmentation, and vascularity, and gives a more firm and smooth appearance.
  6. Abdominal Rejuvenation:  Tightens skin and can treat stretch marks anywhere on the body.

Laser treatments we recommend for people in their 40s

People in their 40s ask for combination therapies like skin tightening and deeper fractionated resurfacing. As we age, we lose both collagen and elastin, we encourage combination treatment options to combat tone, texture, lines, and wrinkles. The outcome from these treatments will leave the skin looking lighter, tighter, and brighter. Lots of pigmentation concerns in this age group, and people start noticing small capillaries and sun damage. Signs of skin laxity start showing.

The 40s really focus on correcting past damage while trying to halt the signs of aging. Preventative treatments focus on building collagen and strengthening elastin for the neck, décolleté, and hands in addition to the face. It’s important for a maintenance plan to be in place going forward to build on results to manage certain concerns.

  1. Laser Hair Removal:  Men 40+ will see an increase in hair growth, perfect time to introduce them to LHR and the Aesthetics world and other treatments. Women will start to see hair growth on their chins and cheeks.
  2. IPL/Photorejuvenation/Photofacial:  Enhances and brightens complexion by treating sun damage, rosacea, acne, vascular lesions, signs of aging, texture and tone, hyperpigmentation, and melasma. Evens out skin tone with minimal downtime. Improves early signs of aging and sun damage and helps stimulate collagen. Areas where it can be used: face, neck, chest, arms, and hands. At this age, we start seeing sun damage from previous years pop up, and patients will seek treatment to correct this.
  3. CO2 Fractional (ablative):  Skin resurfacing reduces lines and wrinkles, improves scars, reduces sun damage, hyperpigmentation, and vascularity, and gives a more firm and smooth appearance. Can also address deeper wrinkles than other treatments.
  4. Non-ablative lasers:  Evens out texture and stimulates collagen, reduces sun damage, and tightens skin. They’re good for general resurfacing, acne scarring, texture, prevention, and tone improvement.
  5. Fotona treatments:
    1. Fotona 2D:  Non-invasive solution for tightening the skin, does not address pigment.
    2. Fotona 3D:  Tightens skin, lifts and restores Volume, safe on all skin types. improves tone and texture.
    3. Fotona 4D:  Addresses lost volume in the cheeks and nasolabial folds, it tightens skin while also targeting imperfections and smoothing textural irregularities.  Non- invasively reduces atrophic scarring.
    4. Fotona 2D eye treatment:  When pigment, excess skin on the lid, and textural irregularities such as fine lines and wrinkles are aging the appearance. The 2D eye can address these concerns.

Laser treatments we recommend for people 50+

As we get into the 50s and 60s skin can appear lax and we have more fine lines, creping, and discoloration, resurfacing treatments will help with these concerns. At this age, the focus is still on skin tightening along with addressing damage such as sun damage, pigmentation, and scarring. These patients can be more aggressive with their treatments as they might be able to accommodate longer downtime in retirement.

  1. Ablative Laser Skin Resurfacing:  A Co2 or Erbium Yag laser treatment can accomplish more for skin rejuvenation than any other single treatment within the aesthetics industry. CO2 fractional skin resurfacing creates new collagen and delivers a dramatic improvement in wrinkles, lip lines, textural irregularities, and pigmentation issues simultaneously in a single treatment! Lumenis Acupulse CO2 laser is a precision tool that allows us to tailor treatments to the specific needs of each patient. We also have Erbium Yag from Fotona, which can treat safely the darker skin types.
  1. IPL/Photorejuvenation/Photofacial:  to even out skin tone with minimal downtime. Prevention and treatment of signs of sun damage. At this age, we start seeing sun damage from previous years pop up and patients will seek treatment. To repair skin pigmentation, sun damage, vascularity, texture, and stimulate collagen.
  2. Laser Hair Removal:  if the pigment is still dark, unwanted hair can be treated on the body, chin, and cheeks.
  3. Fotona 4D:  Addresses lost volume in the cheeks and nasolabial folds and tightens skin while also targeting imperfections and soothing textural irregularities. Non- invasively reduces atrophic scarring.

Why should laser treatments be done in the fall?

When it comes to any of the above treatments, timing is everything.  Laser treatments will make your skin sensitive to heat and sun, so we recommend scheduling your laser treatments for fall. The cool fall weather sets the environment for laser treatments to do their best work! Many of the above treatments require several sessions, so we recommend starting in the fall so your skin is radiant for those 'fun-in-the-sun' months. Keep in mind there is no bad time to get a laser treatment, but fall just might be the best time.
