What causes Stress Urinary Incontinence?
Vaginal childbirth, obesity, and aging contribute to changes in the pelvic floor region that can weaken the urethral closure mechanism. Until now the only options were muscular training known as Kegel exercises or a surgical implant known as a Urethral Sling. Kegel’s are only marginally effective because they rely on daily compliance. Surgery requires hospitalization, recovery time, and potentially serious complications.
How does IncontiLase work?
IncontiLase is a simple, non-surgical laser treatment that is highly effective. During the procedure, a special attachment, similar to a speculum used during a Pap test, is inserted into the vagina. Through this, the vaginal region is treated with short laser pulses through a small handpiece. The photothermal heating affects collagen in both the vaginal walls and the urethra. This causes restructuring and regrowth of the collagen. The result is thickening and tightening of the vaginal walls and urethra to prevent urine loss. An added benefit is that it will also tighten the vagina.
What to expect with an IncontiLase treatment?
IncontiLase treatments are simple and quick. No anesthesia is required, you walk in and walk out and there are no complications or incisions. The procedure is incisionless and painless, with no cutting, bleeding, or downtime. A special handpiece, similar to a speculum as used during a Pap test, is inserted into the vagina. The vaginal region is then treated with subablative laser pulses. No special pre-op preparations or post-op precautions are necessary. You can immediately return to normal everyday activities. Your treatment is provided by a sensitive and highly qualified specialist.

What will it feel like during the IncontiLase Procedure? +
Some patients may experience mild pain or a burning, itching sensation during the treatment at the entrance to the vagina. For most patients, however, the treatment is usually well tolerated.
What should I expect after IncontiLase? +
After the treatment you can leave and carry on with your daily routine with some restrictions. There may be some mild swelling and redness after the procedure and a transparent discharge for 2-3 days. No continuing or lasting post-treatment pain has been noted.

Prolonged periods of sustained exercise are not recommended for two weeks. Avoid activities that increase pressure on the bladder and treatment area for one month such as heavy lifting.

Refrain from inserting tampons into the vagina for four weeks.
How soon will I feel results after IncontiLase? +
Results vary from patient to patient. It is recommended that you keep a diary prior to and after your treatment to record the instances and frequency of urine loss. The full result will take up to four months to develop.

Is the IncontiLase procedure the same as the IntimaLase Procedure? +

Not everybody is a candidate for IncontiLase. There are some precautions and contraindications. These will be discussed with you at the time of your consultation after completion and review of a medical screening questionnaire.
